We are delighted to have reached the semi-finals of the National Lottery Awards. The Awards are an annual search to find the UK’s favourite Lottery-funded project, and they aim to celebrate and recognise the difference that those projects have made to people, places and communities all across the UK.
The SMASH Youth Project is competing against nine other projects in the Best Education Project category for the chance to win an Award and a £2,000 prize, and we need your votes to help us!
Simply visit www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards, click on the Best Education Project category and cast your vote! Voting via this web site is free. Alternatively you can call the Lottery dedicated number for SMASH 0844 686 8753 to register your vote, calls cost 5p from a BT landline.
Every vote counts, so we really appreciate your support.

Once again our “Fairy Godfather” Norman is fearlessly putting himself on the line in the aid of SMASH.
Norman will be taking part in a “White Collar”boxing bout at the end of November at the Swindon Boxing Academy.
Read all about this and Norman’s other up and coming events at Conquer and Survive as featured on our Blog Roll.
Good Luck Norman, from all at SMASH
Our summer conference and AGM will be at the De Vere Hotel on 24th July. The day will start with some key note speeches (don’t worry we’ll keep ‘em short). Followed by a performance by Bristol Playback Theatre, who will gather inspiring stories from the audience and “play them back”. We hope that this will start proceedings with a bang and that the rest of the day will build on the inspiriation that the participant’s stories provide. We hope too that the Arts Council will cover the cost of some arts workshops and other activities to take place throughout the day, but the main event will be the Open Space Conference it’s self and thats down to you. So…..
- IF you work with young people in Swindon
- IF you are a young person who has needed support
- IF you’re a concerned parent
- IF you have ideas that you want to talk about
- IF you have an inspiring story to tell
- IF you want to share your experience
- IF you have questions you want to ask
- IF you want to make a difference
- IF you’re prepared to be surprised
Bring your ideas, your questions, your passion and your commitment to the De Vere Hotel on 24th July 2009, where you will be invited to share your Inspiring stories and to help build a vision for our shared Future. I very much hope that we will see you there as we work together to Inspire the Future. If you would like to be a part of IF but haven’t yet received an invitation, please contact us on 01793 879297 for further details
The Crowdys Climbers have raised over £100 for the British heart foundation and the RNIB by completing a sponsored walk along the Ridgeway. Eight and a half miles in total between 10 in the morning and 2:30 in the afternoon. Pretty good going gang! A special thanks to Ian who is David Wrobel’s uncle and completed the walk on David’s behalf as he was unable to do it having recently had an operation on his toe. Some great pics of the day so see below for the full story.

Setting off from White horse hill at Uffington

A quick rest at Wayland Smithy

Something in the bushes

Nearly there

Liddington Hill and the end of the road. Well done gang!

Team 20 and 16 young people from our waiting list met up at Waterland this Saturday. Two minibuses and two cars full constituted one of the best turn outs we’ve had for years. Sadly that still leaves over 30 young people waiting but on the bright side, what a lovely day. I am actually a little sun burned and thanks too to Paul Brown who did a stirling job as Bar-be-que chef.
