Think you might need a mentor?

Have you ever thought that you needed a little extra support to help reach your goals in life? Are you 13 to 18 years old and live in Swindon?Young People

Then Maybe a mentor could help.  Of course you’ll have fun together but you’ll also use the time to work on making a positive change in your life.

Young people referred to the Project can have all kinds of problems such as…

  • Lack of confidence and self-esteem
  • Problems at home
  • Problems with friends
  • Problems with anger management
  • Problems at school
  • Problems with anti-social behaviour
  • Or maybe just need someone who they can talk to

In fact there are as many reasons for wanting a mentor as there are young people on the Project. What they all have in common is that they have made a positive choice to want to turn their lives around.

If you think a mentor could help you, the first thing you need to do is talk to an adult that helps you. That might be a teacher, a counsellor, connexions worker, social worker or someone you trust. You will need to talk it over with them and decide whether or not a mentor is right for you. If you decide that it is, ask them to download the referral pack. You will need to fill in the application form and a parent or guardian will need to complete the consent form. The person referring you does the rest.

Once we have received your completed referral forms we will then contact you to arrange a visit by one of the Project’s staff.   If successful, you will be invited along to the activity matching days, one which is usually held at the Cotswolds Water Park,  where you will get to meet the volunteers. Only when you and the Project are all happy that your being matched with the right person, will the matching meeting between you and the mentor take place.   Then it’s over to you and them to make this a really positive year.
